Anderszewski's new CD devoted to the music of Robert Schumann will be released by Virgin Classics next month.
It includes the Humoreske op. 20, the six canonic études for pedal piano op. 56 and the strangely touching Gesänge der Frühe op. 133.
The disc offers three very different snapshots of Schumann's world. Humoreske op. 20 is perhaps the most familiar, whilst the op. 133 are Schumann's last works for the piano, completed before he suffered a final mental breakdown. The études op. 56 for pedal piano stem from a period of contrapuntal study Schumann undertook alongside his wife Clara. Rarely played, Anderszewski has made his own arrangements of the études and features them here because, as he says: 'Within the counterpoint Schumann remains himself'.
The new disc is released on 22 November. An accompanying film by Bruno Monsaingeon, Anderszewski plays Schumann, will be broadcast on Polish TV.
